Kedai Kopi Kwang Koan is one of top breakfast spots in Kelapa Gading according to Foursquare, so I was curious to check it. It says this traditional coffee shop is famous for its coffee and bakpao (steamed buns). It turned out that this coffee shop is located in a mini food court, where there are many other vendors selling many different kinds of food. There were two older men brewing coffee with a younger assistant, maybe one of the elders is called Kwang and the other one is Koan. Just kidding. I don’t know for sure the origin of the name. I ordered a cup of hot black coffee and chicken steamed bun. I really liked the steamed bun, the chicken is rich is flavour and there is egg inside. There are three kinds of steamed buns: chicken, pork and sweetened bean, which can be differentiated by the dot colour on top of the buns. The customers came continuously, so the two men at the bar never stopped brewing and filling glasses with coffee and condensed milk. This coffee shop gave me nostalgic feeling, as it is very similar to the atmosphere at most traditional coffee shops in Pontianak. I would like to recommend this place to my family, so we have more options to dine out on weekend mornings. Next time I come here, I would like to try Nasi Tim Fang Fang.
