La Mei Zi 辣妹子

La Mei Zi is one of Thatha’s family’s favourite Chinese restaurants. 20140810_134902

You can judge the authenticity of this Chinese restaurant from its sanitised cutleries (can ju 餐具). 20140810_135808

We saw this big sign on the parking lot, so we ordered it: Sop Bakso Sapi Pakcoy 小白菜牛肉丸汤 (Beef Meatball Soup with Chinese Napa Cabbage). Shantou is the hometown of Thatha’s family, both from dad’s side and mum’s. The last time Thatha visited Shantou was in December 2004. 20140810_13491120140810_140920

Riri ordered Mie Tauco Dingin / Zha Jiang Mian 炸酱面 / Black Bean Cold Noodle. You barely see the noodle, as it was covered by sliced cucumber, but actually the portion was pretty big. This noodle is a traditional Northern Chinese cuisine, different from Korean version of Jajangmyun. 20140810_141855

Thatha couldn’t eat without any greens, so she ordered Selada Air Cah Bawang Putih.   20140810_140250

Here comes the superstar dish: La Zi Ji / Ayam Goreng Szechuan / 麻辣鸡块. At first, Riri wanted to eat half and take home the leftover, but Thatha challenged Riri to finish it all. Riri & Thatha really liked La Zi Ji back in Chicago, at a restaurant called Lao Szechuan, and they had been craving for this dish for quite long. This dish is one of the top 10 food you must eat before you die. 20140810_141114

Sadly, Riri had sore throat the next day. Sorry!
