We saw this big sign on the parking lot, so we ordered it: Sop Bakso Sapi Pakcoy 小白菜牛肉丸汤 (Beef Meatball Soup with Chinese Napa Cabbage). Shantou is the hometown of Thatha’s family, both from dad’s side and mum’s. The last time Thatha visited Shantou was in December 2004.
Riri ordered Mie Tauco Dingin / Zha Jiang Mian 炸酱面 / Black Bean Cold Noodle. You barely see the noodle, as it was covered by sliced cucumber, but actually the portion was pretty big. This noodle is a traditional Northern Chinese cuisine, different from Korean version of Jajangmyun.
Here comes the superstar dish: La Zi Ji / Ayam Goreng Szechuan / 麻辣鸡块. At first, Riri wanted to eat half and take home the leftover, but Thatha challenged Riri to finish it all. Riri & Thatha really liked La Zi Ji back in Chicago, at a restaurant called Lao Szechuan, and they had been craving for this dish for quite long. This dish is one of the top 10 food you must eat before you die.
Sadly, Riri had sore throat the next day. Sorry!
